Genetic Assessment of Remnant Sub-Populations of Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758) in the Upper Danube

چکیده
While the potamodromous sterlet was common in past throughout Upper Danube Germany and Austria, it nearly vanished second half of 20th century. Until recently, only one small isolated reproductive sub-population is known from German–Austrian border. However, remnants another section downstream Vienna, near Austrian–Slovakian border, were discovered 2014. An assessment population size most important prerequisites for conservation management. This study aims to assess sizes at both sites, using genetic pedigrees comparison mark–recapture data. A total 193 samples collected these populations between 2011 2021 have been investigated. In addition, 59 captive stocks, 38 wild fish downstream, 247 profiles previous studies used comparison. Results show close relationships intermittent reproduction on site. Estimated based upon pedigree are very small, consistent with results. Small remnant limited, sporadic reproduction, as well continual losses outmigration support actions sturgeons Danube, including restoration functional migration corridors.

Liver, gills, and skin histopathology and heavy metal content of the Danube sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758).
The sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus L.) is a bottom-feeding fish species with a direct exposure to contaminants from water and sediments. Although heavy metal pollution is believed to be one of the main threats to the sterlet population in the Danube River basin, there is a lack of knowledge of the exact impact of heavy metals on their survival. In the present study, effects of heavy metal pollutio...
متن کاملontogeny of gill structure in sterlet, acipenser ruthenus (linnaeus, 1758)
the ontogeny of the gill structure in starlet ( acipenser ruthenus ) was studied histologically from hatching up to 50 days post hatching (dph). based on the obtained results, the first developmental phase of the biological systems in this species was started from hatching with an intense organogenesis and the second phase from 9 dph with the beginning of exogenous feeding. the gill anlage was ...

The aim of the present study was the genetic analysis of the Dniester population of sterlet Acipenser ruthenus and comparison of it to five other sterlet populations, in order to develop a population recovery plan. The genetic analysis of six sterlet populations from Eurasian rivers (Dniester, Dnieper, Danube, Volga, Kama and Ob) was carried out using microsatellite DNA markers. The genetic var...
متن کاملIdentification of bester hybrids (female Huso huso Linnaeus, 1758 and male sterlet Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758) using AFLP molecular technique
In this study Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) was applied to species identification of bester hybrids. Hybrids identification was performed by comparison of electrophoresis profiles with parental species. The simultaneous occurrence of diagnostic bands fixed in the parental species, genetic distance and identification and cluster analyses (UPGMA) allow a correct identification. ...
